A Plastic Surgeon is a medical physician who specializes in repairing, reconstructing or correcting scarring or perceived disfigurement in an individual. This type of surgical reconstruction is referred to as Plastic Surgery. Plastic Surgeons will also perform other procedures such as cosmetic surgeries to improve physical appearance. Examples include face lifts, liposuctions, breat implants and nose jobs.

Cosmetic surgery has increased dramatically in the last ten years. In 2006, nearly 11 million cosmetic surgeries were performed in the United States.
